All the way back to when you turned 18. No stone will remain unearthed.

In Canada… depending on what they criminal record request is it will be 5, 10 or lifetime search. Commit a crime.. unless you get a pardon the crime will be with you forever and the court records will always exist.

It literally depends on the court and its data collection capabilities. California computer records generally go back as far as the late 1970’s, the old INS data base goes back to the 1960’s, and we still have counties here in Alabama that are not automated at all.

What this also means is that a “hand check” can reveal anything that is in the files, though it will be retrieved manually. So, despite a computerized data base, hand searches will find things from a very long time ago.

I guess it all depends on what systems are in use and how hard or how far somebody wants to look. The higher the clearance sought, the further back they will want to check.

This actually depends on the kind of the check required. There are some records (sex and pedophilia related, for example) that will always show up and will always matter. Most felonies will also be checked right upto when you turned 18.

Juvenile records are generally sealed. But for some type of checks like for citizenship, these will have to be reported as well.

the 7-10 years may just be to make sure if you are a criminal that you have not had any criminal activity for that long of a time….basically, you have made your amends and therefore can be a trusted employee.
Even if you had your record expunged your offense still shows up on your criminal record.
